No Bounce Back for the Lions

The Detroit Lions take on the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend and the hope among weekly fantasy football people is that those highly drafted Detroit players will finally start to show up. This has not been a good year for most Lions players. Matthew Stafford finished last season as a top five weekly fantasy football quarterback. This year he has more interceptions than touchdowns. He’s still throwing for a ton of yards and his completion percentage hasn’t suffered much but he has been knocked around quite a bit. Stafford has been sacked nine times on the year and that’s got to be concern going up against a pretty good Eagles defense with some great defensive ends. Change your lineup here.

One of the worst parts about the Lions rough start is that it has affected everyone. Even Calvin Johnson is suffering from the lackluster offense. Johnson is averaging over a hundred yards a game which is pretty good. The problem is that he’s only got one touchdown this season through four games. That’s not good for a player that was probably drafted in the first round of every weekly fantasy football draft. Johnson still has time to get better but he’s going to need production quick and it’s going to be difficult against the Eagles.

The Philadelphia defense is much better than people give it credit for right now. If not for the rash of Michael Vick turnovers this would be one of the top units in the game. Their run defense could use some work but the Lions don’t have the personnel to take advantage of that. Mikel Leshoure is experiencing some growing pains and his transition to the NFL is taking longer than most thought. Jahvid Best has missed a bit of time due to injury and other than those two they don’t have a single player over 50 yards. The Lions are team with potential, but they’re not going to bounce back against the Eagles.
